Unpopular Opinion: I think Tikkies are cool! (splitting bills)
How many times have you gone to a restaurant with your friend or date and before you get there, you subconsciously hope that they pay the bill? I definately do this. In many cases, big groups assume that one can afford what the other can. When some do not know how to communicate their status. Talking about money should not be an uncomfortable conversation, this is where many friendships and families can break. Money is an energy exchange and once you reach independence, you are responsible for what you exchange in. Note: as relationships progress the exhcanges may look different.
Great things about Tikkie or the concept of Tikkie are:
Mutual exchange. Everyone is responsible for their finances so why would someone else be for yours?
The avoidant & uncomfortable conversation when maybe there are short comings on one’s end or some people merely do not want to spend their money.
After the meet up you feel balanced, I don't owe you anything and vs.
Less preassure for "men" to pay the bill on first dates!?
Technically, you do not have to pay the balance. That too must be justified. The person may have completely drained you and treated you like trash. There are no law suits where someone didn’t pay the tikkie... are there?
However, all in all, tikkie aside. Engage in a date, afspraak, meeting that you want to afford. Can you communicate this? Affording something is not about money, affording is the will to give your energy for what the moment requires of you. Can you match the expectation or do you need to communicate some boundries? Living around the truth about your bank status will set you free and welcome a lot more than you think. Example: “I cannot afford to meet for drinks right now however I can afford to meet for a walk or sit at a park somewhere!” I would love to spend time with you however I do not want or need to exchange in drinks. This is richness, not pleasing the other with the perception of what money is supposed to look like.
The responses may be more surprising than you think! By people pleasing through money exchange is how we keep feeding into over consumption, false illusions of self, how we keep "making the rich richer", which is not always necessary. We blame the system for existing yet we do technically feed the system that exists. Communicating what you need from another, may not even be about buying a drink, this can be about your own wealth and what you need in the moment from the other. You can say this and still drive a Lamborghini or a Bike. At the end of the day this is how figuratively rich people stay figuratively rich.
who is for you will accept all of you...
